You might have spotted this giant smiling cat while driving down Figueroa Street, just south of downtown L.A. When founder Winslow Felix opened his dealership in 1921, he shared a name with the famous 1919 cartoon character. He struck a marketing deal with the cat's creator, making the character his official mascot and eventually inspiring this iconic 1957 rooftop sign.
